Who I Am

My name is Odessa Oldham a 5th generation Navajo Artist and business owner. Born and raised on the Navajo Nation until the age of 13; when my family moved to Lander, Wyoming. I still visit the Navajo Nation as often as I am able. Especially Window Rock, Arizona and Tohatchi, New Mexico.

I am a member of the Navajo Nation and come from a long family history of Navajo Artists. My family are silversmiths, craftsmen, and jewelry business owners and have been for generations. Jewelry making began for me when I was 18 years old to help pay for college expenses. My teachings first came from my mother Denise who helped establish my craftmanship. Later, my Uncles, Aunts, and Grandma began to pass their knowledge on as well in this venture. Teachings from running a vendor business, knowing the difference from nickel and silver, spotting fake stones, and silversmithing/craftsmanship. They continue to be mentors in reaching my goals.

Hόzhόnί Naasháa (Walk in Beauty)

Másánί (grandma) taught me to live by Hόzhόnί Naasháa. Walk in Beauty; beauty is all around us and we should always do our best to live in harmony. Bring beauty into our world and into those around us. Shίmá (my mom) and Másánί taught me to make each piece with Hόzhό in my heart. When someone takes that piece, they take a part of me with them. So I always make sure to have harmony in my mind and heart so they carry that beauty from me into their lives.

Family

The support of my family inspires my dreams and creations.
